South Bank Centre The Chateau Presents SE_XCELLENCE
Fri 9 Jun 2023, 11pm | Part of Christine and the Queens' Meltdown | Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer
For the first time since closing their doors in March 2020, legendary south-east London pop-up queer nightclub The Chateau reopens for Meltdown.
Christine and the Queens, the French musical phenomenon, will curate Meltdown 2023
The 28th edition of the UK’s longest-running artist-curated music festival, Meltdown, is to be curated by Christine and the Queens.
This one-off party for Christine and The Queens’ Meltdown brings together leading collectives from south-east London’s queer underground movement.
It pairs old and new crews in epic back-to-back moments that encapsulate the spirit of queer south London.
Established crews mix with emerging talent to create a knowledge exchange both on and off the decks, which feeds back into the community post-event, creating a legacy of new connections and collaborations.
Groundbreaking trans Latinx visual artist Sweatmother provides live visuals on the night, drawing on their work blending performance, self-recorded documentation, and internet and archival footage to explore and make visible queer lived experiences.
Crews and collectives include: Let’s Have A Kiki, Qwe’re, Spice Boys, The Chateau, UOKHUN and WET.
DJs include: Amor Ante, Jay Jay Revlon, Lagoon Femshayma, Mo Probs, Rabz, Rita Lin and Victoria Peckham.
This event is curated by Laurie Belgrave for The Chateau.
